Both apps use AI to put real paint colors on a photo of your room. Paint Color Visualizer has the bigger catalog, paints more surfaces and lets you pay per use. Muro is a subscription with strong European brand coverage, side-by-side comparison of up to 12 colors and views of the room at different times of day.
I built Muro, so take this as the maker's side of the story. I've tested Muro myself; I haven't used Paint Color Visualizer, so everything about it comes from its App Store listing, checked on September 28, 2026. An earlier version of this post credited the app to a developer called Patzer. The App Store lists a different publisher, so I've corrected that.

Where Paint Color Visualizer is the better pick
The catalog. 230,000+ colors from 131 brands is far more than Muro has. If your paint brand is obscure, it's the first app I'd check.
More than walls. It paints trim, ceilings, cabinets and garage doors. Muro is built for walls, so for a kitchen where the cabinets matter as much as the paint, this app covers more.
No subscription. You get one visualization free and then buy credits. If you only need a handful of previews, that's likely cheaper than a subscription.
Where Muro is the better pick
Comparing a shortlist. You can put up to 12 colors on the same wall in one go and look at them side by side.
Light. Muro keeps the light, shadows and furniture from your photo, and you can see the finished room by day, at sunset and at night, with the lamps on or off.
European brands. Muro carries Caparol, Brillux, Sto, Alpina, Schöner Wohnen, Keim, Sikkens, Tikkurila, Jotun, Flügger and a long list of Polish brands. I can't tell from the listing which of these the other app has.
Languages. Muro works in English, German and Polish, including color names where the manufacturer publishes them.
Bottom line
If you need a rare brand, want to paint cabinets and trim, or only need a few previews, try Paint Color Visualizer first. If you're choosing wall colors from a shortlist, especially with European paints, and want to see them in your room's light through the day, that's what Muro is built for.
Whichever app you use, paint a real sample on the wall before you buy gallons.
