Short answer: if you're painting the outside of your house, or you're on Android, look at Repaint. If you're painting interior walls, want European brands, or want to see a color in your room at different times of day, look at Muro.
In the App Store, HousePaint AI is listed as Repaint. I built Muro, so this is the maker's view, not a neutral review. I've tested Muro myself. I haven't tested Repaint, so everything I say about it comes from its App Store listing, checked on September 28, 2026.

What Repaint offers
According to its listing, Repaint handles both interiors and exteriors. You upload a photo and it tells apart siding, trim, shutters, cabinets, walls and ceilings on its own, so you can color each one. Its colors come from eight brands, all sold in the US. It says its AI takes lighting into account, and projects sync between the phone app and the web.
If you're repainting the front of your house, that surface detection is exactly what you want, and it's something Muro doesn't do.
When Muro makes more sense
You're not in the US
Muro has 51,362 colors from 34 brands plus RAL Classic. Next to Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore and Behr, that includes Caparol, Brillux, Sto, Alpina, Sikkens, Jotun, Tikkurila, Dulux, and Polish brands like Śnieżka, Dekoral and Magnat. If the paint you'll actually buy is sold in Europe, that matters more than anything else here. The app itself is in English, German and Polish.
You want to see the light at different times
Muro keeps the light, shadows and furniture from your photo. Then you can see the same color by day, at sunset and at night, with the lamps on or off. A color that works at noon can look very different under a warm lamp at 9 pm.
You've got a long shortlist
Put up to 12 colors on the same wall in one go and compare them side by side. You can also give different walls different colors.
You found a color in a photo
Show Muro a photo and it finds the closest match in each brand.
You want a big file
Muro has three quality levels: Standard, HD and Ultra (4K).
What Muro doesn't do
No exteriors, no Android, no web version. It's a subscription with no free trial, so you pay before you try it, and each month comes with a set allowance of color changes.
Bottom line
Repaint if you're painting the outside of your house, need trim and shutters recognized separately, you're on Android, or you'd rather buy credits than subscribe.
Muro if you're painting interior walls, buy paint in Europe, want to test many colors on one wall, or want to see how a color changes from day to night.
Whichever you pick, paint a real sample on the wall before you buy the full amount.
