The Best Paint Color Visualizer App in 2026: Muro and 8 Alternatives Compared

Multiple phone screens showing different paint visualizer apps side by side on a wooden table

The best paint color visualizer app in 2026 is Muro. It repaints the walls in a photo of your own room with a real manufacturer's color, keeps your light and shadows as they are, and shows the same room by day, at sunset and at night, with the lamps on or off. You can find any of its 51,362 colors from 34 manufacturers plus RAL Classic by name or by the code on the chip, including Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr, Valspar and Farrow & Ball.

A quick word on who's writing: I built Muro and I've tested it on my own rooms. Below I explain, point by point, why I think it's the best app in this comparison. What I say about the other apps comes from their App Store listings and websites, checked on September 28, 2026.

The ranking at a glance

  1. Muro: best for comparing real colors from different brands on your own wall
  2. Sherwin-Williams Color Expert: good if you're buying Sherwin-Williams
  3. Benjamin Moore Color Portfolio: good for browsing the Benjamin Moore fan deck
  4. Dulux Visualiser: good for a quick live look at Dulux colors
  5. Repaint (HousePaint AI): good for US brands and exteriors
  6. Paint Color Visualizer: good if you're after a very rare brand
  7. Remodel AI: good for reimagining a whole room
  8. RoomsGPT: good for room ideas in the browser
  9. Paintit.ai: good for furnishing ideas in the browser

What to look for in a paint visualizer app

Before you pick an app, check five things. They decide whether the result actually helps you at the paint store.

  1. Real colors with codes. A nice color on screen doesn't help much if you can't order it. Make sure every color has a manufacturer name and a code.
  2. Your own photo. Sample rooms always look good. What matters is how the color looks in your room, with your floor, your furniture and your window.
  3. Light at different times of day. Wall color changes with the light. An app that shows your room in the evening and at night saves you the biggest surprise after painting.
  4. Your brands. Check that the app carries the paint you can actually buy where you live.
  5. Comparing several colors. There's rarely just one candidate. A good app lets you see several colors side by side.

Muro does all five, and that's why it's number one in this comparison.

Why Muro is number one

Your room, your light

You take a photo of your room and Muro repaints the walls in that exact photo. The light from your window, the shadow behind the sofa and the furniture stay where they are. You're not looking at a color pasted over the wall, you're looking at your room as if it were already painted.

Day, evening and night, with the lamps on or off

I didn't find this feature in the descriptions of the other apps in this comparison. A color looks different at noon than in the evening under a warm lamp, and the evening is when you're most likely to be sitting in that room. In Muro you tap day, sunset or night and switch the room's lamps on or off. The wall color stays the same; only the light changes.

The right color in seconds

Type the name or the code from the paint chip and Muro finds it. The brands sold in your country come first; in the US that's Behr, Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Valspar, PPG, Dunn-Edwards and Vista Paint. In total there are 51,362 colors from 34 manufacturers plus the full RAL Classic range.

Real colors you can buy exactly as shown

Every color in Muro comes from a manufacturer's fan deck, with its name and, where the manufacturer publishes one, the code you give the paint counter. The color values come from the manufacturers' own fan decks and materials. So the color in your photo has a name and a code you can order exactly as they are.

Up to 12 colors side by side

Still down to ten candidates? Put up to 12 colors on the same wall and compare them side by side. That's how you get from a dozen colors to two without buying a pile of sample pots.

Every wall its own color

Want an accent wall and the rest lighter? Pick the walls one by one and give each its own color.

That color from Instagram, in your brand

Saw a color in a photo you love? Muro finds the closest shade from every manufacturer. Our own analysis shows how well that works: 3 in 4 paint colors have a near-identical twin in another brand. Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace, for example, has a Behr twin that's practically identical on paper.

Easy to use

Photo, color, result: that's all it takes. A slider switches between before and after. Your rooms and results are saved and sync through your own iCloud between iPhone and iPad. Results come in Standard, HD or Ultra (4K), and the app is available in English, German and Polish.
